The Private World of Kenneth Williams
First broadcast on BBC Radio 4 in late 2003 as a three-part series The Private World of Kenneth Williams was meticulously compiled from the Kenneth Williams Diaries and from the BBC’s own vast archive of recordings featuring Williams himself in performance, by David and legendary BBC producer and former Head of Light Entertainment for BBC Radio, the late, much-missed Jonathan James-Moore.
David reads sensitively and insightfully from the KW Diaries in a selection that covers Williams’ entire career from post-War provincial rep to his final appearance on Just a Minute in March 1988. Includes many clips from Beyond Our Ken, Round the Horne, Just a Minute, chat shows PLUS KW’s famous showstopper Crepe Suzette!

Horne of Plenty
Another collaboration with Jonathan James-Moore, this 3-disc collection presents a detailed history of the classic BBC radio series Beyond Our Ken and Round the Horne. Includes the complete first and last broadcasts of both shows.
Narrated by Jonathan James-Moore, with David as ‘Benson’ , a sort of radio butler who is frequently called upon to read sheaves of fascinating memos, letters and contemporary audience feedback unearthed from the BBC’s Written Archives.

Big Finish audio productions
David has made several appearances on Big Finish audio productions, all with a sci-fi/comedy bent.
Mark Gatiss (League of Gentlemen ) wrote this intriguing Dr. Who adventure based on Orson Welles’ legendary 1938 broadcast of War of the Worlds and invited David to play Welles himself.
David also appears as a crazed Russian scientist and briefly as a grizzled cop who gets shot dead in an alley. Also stars Simon Pegg, Jessica Stevenson, Mark Benton.

Two audio adventures starring Dr. Who companion (and Liza Minnelli’s best friend!) Katie Manning as Iris Wildthyme, an alcoholic North Country time-traveler, Ortis Deley as her bewildered companion and David as Panda, a stuffed toy (who sounds an awful lot like Gerard Hoffnung!). Great fun!

"A masterpiece of comic timing" - Evening Standard
"Has the audience cheering in admiration" - Independent on Sunday
"Benson is pure bliss!" - Daily Mail
In a powerful performance that runs the gamut of emotions, from hysterical comedy to heartbreaking pathos, Benson shows Williams at a poetry recital; flirting outrageously with a gang of workmen; bickering with his mother; as a youth, trying to impress Dennis, his sister's boyfriend, and alone, praying for salvation.
Benson also tells us of his own special link to Williams in a darkly comic interlude that introduces us to his mother, his sexy football teacher and his Birmingham headmaster taking morning assembly. Then it's back to Williams for the final glorious, tragic scene, holding court in an Italian restaurant.
